The track, which was created to rival the Bahrain International Circuit and to bring motorsport to has failed to an extent and as of 2008 the only international series it is hosting is the GP2 Asia Series of which it is the base of and the Speedcar Series, both which are also hosted at nearby Bahrain.

Dubai has been proposed as a Formula One venue, but is unlikely due to Yas Island Circuit in Abu Dhabi hosting a Formula 1 race from 2009.
