Beginning in 2007, the NHL regular season has begun in Europe while teams not involved complete their exhibition schedule. The 2008–2009 season began with the Pittsburgh Penguins facing off against the Ottawa Senators in Stockholm, Sweden and the New York Rangers taking on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Prague, Czech Republic.

Today's players with the Montreal Canadiens live with the club's rich history on a daily basis. Sunday, the best and brightest from across the League happily shared that history during the NHL's All-Star Game. But the disappointment faded quickly, replaced by the knowledge that memories were made on that night that will likely never fade. Patrick Kane's snapshot moment of his first All-Star Weekend didn't occur inside the Bell Centre or even at the player's hotel. Kane's moment came while he was riding in the back of a taxi cab. Staring out the window, Kane caught a quick glimpse of the giant poster of him hanging on the outside of Le Centre Sheraton Montreal on Boulevard Rene-Levesque West, a short walk from the Bell Centre.

Physical play in hockey, consisting of allowed techniques such as checking and disallowed techniques such as elbowing, high sticking, and cross-checking, is inextricably linked to fighting. Stephen Gregory Yzerman is a retired Canadian professional hockey player who played his entire National Hockey League career with the Detroit Red Wings. Yzerman led the Wings to three Stanley Cup championships (1997, 1998 and 2002).
